Living

Hillcrest is an older neighborhood of San Diego that has improved economically with its numerous locally owned businesses. It is also known to have a very active lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. Home to San Diego and frequented by individuals nationwide is the annual Pay Pride Parade. This event is widely accepted by the City of San Diego and attended by individuals of all orientation.

The Farmers Market is open every Sunday where local farmers sell organically grown produce. A must visit hot spot!

Shopping in Hillcrest is an adventure. This walkable neighborhood has plentiful shops and businesses such as Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s, Chipotle, Buffalo Exchange, Local Habit, boutiques, and specialty bookstores.

Hillcrest is one of the most popular places to dine due to its diversity of cultural cuisine. From Indian, Italian, Japanese, Mexican, Chinese and American, one can find a restaurant to please any palate and enjoy late night dining as well!

It is a well-known fact that Hillcrest likes to party. In addition to the annual Gay Pride Parade, it is also host to many festivals such as City Fest that was originally organized to celebrate the restoration of the Hillcrest sign and is held the second Sunday in August. This event showcases great bands and lots of fun and games!

Schools, Health, Transportation

There are two elementary schools in Hillcrest. Florence Elementary School, and Alice Birney Elementary School.

There are two major hospitals, University of California at San Diego Medical Center and Scripps Mercy Hospital. In addition to the local hospitals are numerous clinics and specialty physicians.

Although Hillcrest is a walkable neighborhood, Route 163 serves it at the University Avenue, Washington Street, and Robinson Avenue exits.
